At Salt & Sage, waxing is more than just hair removal—it's a ritual of release, care, and renewal. Whether it's your first time or you're a seasoned regular, how you care for your skin after your appointment plays a big role in how you feel and how your skin responds.
Here’s a simple, gentle guide to support your skin in the days after your wax. Think of this as your post-wax ritual—grounded in respect, softness, and a little bit of sage-scented wisdom.
🌾 1. Be Kind to Your Skin (and Yourself)
Your skin just experienced a form of exfoliation and stimulation, so it may feel a little sensitive—this is completely normal. Avoid touching, scratching, or exfoliating the area for at least 24-48 hours, and give your skin time to settle.
Skip the following for the next 1–2 days:
- Saunas, steam rooms, or long hot showers
- Heavy workouts or activities that cause excessive sweating
- Pools, oceans, or hot tubs
- Tight clothing that could rub or trap heat
🧴 2. Hydrate + Moisturize Naturally
Your skin thrives with moisture after waxing. Reach for a natural, unscented moisturizer—think aloe vera gel, jojoba oil, calendula balm, or even shea butter.
Hydration helps:
- Reduce redness
- Minimize ingrown hairs
- Keep your skin glowing and resilient

🌿 3. Exfoliate—But Only When It’s Time
Once the initial tenderness has passed (usually around 2–3 days), gentle exfoliation can help prevent ingrown hairs and keep skin smooth.
Reach for a natural scrub, dry brush, or exfoliating mitt—but be gentle. Your skin doesn’t need to be “scrubbed” to be beautiful. A few times a week is more than enough.
🛑 4. Say No to Fragrance + Harsh Products
For at least 48 hours, avoid products that contain:
- Artificial fragrance
- Alcohol
- Retinoids or strong acids (like glycolic or salicylic)
These can irritate your freshly waxed skin and may lead to discomfort or breakouts.
🌙 5. Listen to Your Body
Post-wax care is just as much about tuning in as it is about routine. If your skin is red, inflamed, or not quite happy, it might be asking for rest or simplicity. Honor that. A cool compress, some aloe, and a quiet night in can go a long way.
